On Thursday, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) vowed not to let another government shutdown occur in order to repeal Obamacare even though Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) did not rule out that option in order to give Americans some relief on Obamacare.
“There will not be a government shutdown,” McConnell declared of a potential shutdown on January 15, which is when the government will close if Congress does not agree on another resolution to fund the government by then.
McConnell and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) negotiated the deal on Wednesday, which Congress passed and President Barack Obama signed to temporarily re-open the government and raise the debt ceiling.
He then slammed the defunding Obamacare strategy and said Obamacare will not be repealed until he is Senate Majority Leader and there is a Republican in the White House.
Cruz did not take another government shutdown off the table.
“I would do anything, and I will continue to do anything I can, to stop the train wreck that is Obamacare,” Cruz said in an interview with ABC News.
McConnell is being challenged in the Republican primary by Tea Party candidate Matt Bevin. After Mark Levin indicated that McConnell needed to be defeated last week, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin suggested she may support McConnell’s primary challenger as well.
