The grassroots group Free California has released a list of specific politicians being considered for recalls over their support of new gun control laws in California.
According to the San Jose Mercury News, this list includes Sen. Norma Torres (D-Chino), Sen. Ben Hueso (D-Chula Vista), Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzales (D-San Diego), Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva (D-Fullerton), and Assembly Speaker John Perez (D-Los Angeles).
From the time the possibility of recalls were suggested in California following the successful recall attempts in Colorado, grassroots proponents made it clear they would be careful in choosing which politicians to target. The groups want to devote their efforts to those whom they believe they have the best chance of recalling and whose recall would make a significant political difference.
Free California founder Jennifer Kerns said her group is still reviewing the names to get the best candidates for recall on the list. Many of those will be politicians “in swing districts,” especially “those who were put into office in special elections.”
Because of this review process, the list currently available may change somewhat in days to come but will be “finalized in about two weeks.”
