ICE Union Head Claims Amnesty Backers Show 'No Concern' for Public Safety

On Tuesday, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) National Council president Chris Crane slammed big-money backers of comprehensive immigration reform for only being concerned with their bottom line and not caring about the safety of the American public.

On the Laura Ingraham Show, Crane said the Senate’s immigration bill, which provides a pathway to citizenship and which the Congressional Budget Office determined would lower the wages of working class Americans, was all about favors for Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg, Bill Marriott, McDonald’s, Hewlett Packard, and others that are relentlessly trying to get the bill across the finish line.

He said those pouring in millions of dollars to support comprehensive immigration reform have “no concern for the American public’s safety,” national security, or a legitimate immigration system.

“When is enough money enough money for these people?” he said. “That’s all they care about.”

Crane also referenced a Government Accountability Institute (GAI) report that found that the Senate bill gave corporations amnesty and “special protection for themselves from prosecution for hiring illegal immigrants.” GAI referred to this provision as a “Get Out of Jail Free Card” for corporations.

He said it is “no longer illegal to be in this country illegally.” Crane also noted his organization cannot even put many illegal immigrants convicted of multiple criminal acts into “removal proceedings” because they are protected by President Barack Obama’s “open border policy.”

“Once you make it past the border and you are in the interior of the United States, you’re free,” Crane said of the current state of immigration law.

Crane also slammed Obama for ignoring immigration law and making “his own law through policy.”

“We’re going to see that again if there is some type of immigration legislation put through,” Crane said, emphasizing the importance of stopping comprehensive immigration reform legislation.

He said illegal immigrants are making a rush for the border and overwhelming officials in border states, telling border patrol agents, “We’re here for Obama’s amnesty.”

“Congress does not control us. Special interests groups now control us,” Crane said. He explained that groups like the National Council of La Raza and big-business interests essentially wrote the immigration bill, which has been referred to as the second coming of Obamacare because hardly anyone has even read it.
