Poll Claims Gun Control a Winning Position for McAuliffe

On the eve of Virginia’s gubernatorial election, Politico released numbers from “Democratic firm Public Policy Polling” showing that gun control is a winning position for candidate Terry McAuliffe (D).

The poll was commissioned by the Center for American Progress Action Fund, which has enjoyed financial support from George Soros in the past.

According to the poll, McAuliffe leads the race by seven percentage points, and this lead is supposedly bolstered by his promises of more gun control. For example, the poll claims 40 percent of Virginians support McAuliffe’s plan to bar concealed carry permit holders from carrying a gun on college campuses for self-defense.

The poll also claims that Ken Cuccinelli’s (R) opposition to more gun control–particularly “expanded background checks”–hurts him, with 47 percent of voters saying this position makes them “less likely to vote for him.”

Politico does not say anything about Virginians’ views of other gun control McAuliffe is pushing–from “high capacity” magazine bans and an “assault weapons” ban to a one-gun-a-month purchase limit for Virginians. Nor do they contrast the findings of the Democrat poll with an October 15 poll which showed that 51 percent of Virginia voters support the NRA
