Obama Admin Delays Small Business Online Obamacare Enrollment for One Year

On Wednesday, the Obama administration announced that it would delay online enrollment for small businesses seeking to use Healthcare.gov for a full year. The so-called “SHOP Marketplace” will be shut down for the year online, while businesses will still be able to apply using paper applications. The Health and Human Services Department announced, “We’ve concluded that we can best serve small employers by continuing this offline process while we concentrate on both creating a smoothly functioning online experience.” The goal for online launch: November 2014.

The original delay from the Obama White House came before October 1, upon which date the White House announced that online capabilities would become available by November. Now that delay will extend a full year.

This news follows on the heels of reports that the Obama administration is seeking to calm traffic to the Obamacare exchange website this weekend over fears that the site will crash again.
