WASHINGTON, Jan. 10 (UPI) —
Republicans in the House of Representatives introduced a short-term funding bill Friday that would keep the U.S. government going for a week.
The measure would prevent another government shutdown, the Wall Street Journal reported. Rep. Hal Rogers, R-Ky., chairman of the Appropriations Committee, said that by funding the government through Saturday, Jan. 18, the bill would give negotiators time to work out a more comprehensive budget agreement for the current fiscal year, which ends Sept. 30.
Rogers said he expects the talks to wind up Sunday or Monday.
Rep. Tom Cole, R-Okla., told The Hill that there is general agreement to put off the most serious differences until the 2015 budget talks.
