Private Citizen Michael Bloomberg Reports for Duty

On January 13, private citizen Michael Bloomberg went back to work at Bloomberg L.P., “the financial information and media company” he founded in 1981.

According to Capital, a Bloomberg company memo was circulated that said, “We’ll be seeing more of him at 731 Lexington and our offices around the world. When he’s in New York Mike will most likely spend a few hours a day working from his new desk on the fifth floor.”

That is the same floor that “houses staffers for Bloomberg View, Bloomberg TV, and Bloomberg Radio.”

While mayor of New York City, Bloomberg “recused himself from most company business and did not draw a private sector paycheck.” He did weigh in on large company decisions “in his capacity as majority shareholder.”

Bloomberg’s spokesperson has declined to comment on what role the former mayor will actually play in the company on a day-to-day basis.
