Oklahoma Concealed Carry Permits More Than Doubled Previous Year's in 2013

In 2013, Oklahoma more than doubled the number of concealed carry permits issued in 2012.

According to the AP, “More than 60,000 handgun permits were issued to Oklahomans last year,” bringing the number of permit holders to just over 190,000.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation said that “two-thirds of the licenses went to men, with one third issued to women.”

Gun industry experts chalked up the sudden increase in permits to “concerns over mass shootings” and the subsequent desire to be armed at all times. Others suggested “a 2012 Oklahoma law change allowing concealed carry permit holders to carry [their firearms] openly” played a role in the permit boom.
