Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and former vice presidential candidate Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) will speak at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in March, Breitbart News has learned exclusively. Also, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has been invited to speak and is close to being confirmed.
CPAC is an annual gathering of thousands of conservatives in Washington, D.C., aimed at unifying the movement and connecting leaders with grassroots activists. The American Conservative Union (ACU) hosts the event. In 2014, it will happen from March 6 through March 8 at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center in National Harbor, Maryland, right outside Washington, D.C.
“We are proud to announce that Senator Ted Cruz and Rep. Paul Ryan are confirmed speakers and Gov. Sarah Palin is an invited speaker for CPAC 2014,” ACU chairman Al Cardenas said in a statement provided exclusively to Breitbart News. “At this year’s CPAC – and through our theme ‘ACU’s Golden Anniversary: Getting It Right for 50 Years’ – we will celebrate how conservatism has shaped our past and look to the future with excitement.”
Cardenas added that Cruz and Ryan are just two leaders who will be speaking at the event. According to the National Journal, for instance, Sens. Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Rand Paul (R-KY) have also been confirmed for the event.
“There will be more than 200 thought leaders and personalities from government, politics, and entertainment in what will be our best CPAC ever,” Cardenas said. “This will be the year that conservatives begin pulling the nation back from the brink of Barack Obama’s disaster with a movement that inspires, unites, and discovers new solutions to our current challenges.”

In his just over a year in the U.S. Senate, Cruz has skyrocketed to national conservative stardom–something he capped with an all-night Senate floor speech deconstructing Obamacare. Cruz has infuriated GOP leaders with his brash tactics against liberalism but has earned what seems like instant respect from the base.
Ryan, on the other hand, has seen his popularity slip over the past year thanks in large part to his support for amnesty and to his work on the budget deal he cut with Senate Budget Committee chairwoman Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA). That said, Ryan has enjoyed support from the base before–especially when Mitt Romney picked him to be his running mate–thanks to his push to get Republicans to focus on entitlement reform and his systematic deconstruction of Obamacare directly to President Barack Obama’s face a couple years ago.
