Window of Apple's Iconic Glass Cube Store Broken by Snowblower

The Glass-sided Apple store on Manhattan’s Fifth Avenue has become an iconic monument to all things cool, but the harsh winter has proven too much for the eye catching store.

One of the giant glass panes of the transparent cube that serves as the entrance to the Manhattan Apple store was broken either by a stone that was thrown by a city worker’s snowblower or by the machine slamming into the glass, according to reports on January 21.

The huge pane is not in danger of falling apart, store managers say, and shoppers are perfectly safe due to the safety features of the glass.

It is estimated that it will cost Apple $450,000 to replace the single pane.

In 2005, New York magazine reported that Apple mastermind Steve Jobs himself designed the 32-foot-by-32-foot enclosure and it has since become one of the most visited and photographed edifices in New York.

A re-design in 2011 simplified the design from 90 separate glass panels to only 15.
