Son of Sen. Mark Udall faces heroin charge in Colorado

BOULDER, Colo., Jan. 30 (UPI) —

The son of U.S. Sen. Mark Udall, D-Colo., has been charged with breaking into cars and heroin possession in Boulder.

Jed Udall, 26, was arrested Wednesday, the Boulder Camera reported. Police said he was spotted breaking into cars, and then heroin, a used syringe and a spoon were found when he was searched.

Udall said he was looking for jumper cables because a friend’s car had a dead battery. One of the car owners reported $78 missing, but police said they found no money on Udall and he was charged only with vehicular trespassing.

He was released on $1,000 bail.

“Maggie and I are deeply distressed to learn of our son’s arrest,” his father said in a statement. “We love our son and stand with him in his commitment to getting the treatment he needs. We appreciate the private space to deal with this as a family.”
