Ted Cruz: Obama Admin 'Abusing the Constitution'

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) appeared on the inaugural Breitbart News Saturday show and said that 26 million Texans did not send him to Washington to work for the party bosses. He vowed to relentlessly fight against an Obama administration that is abusing the Constitution.

Cruz blasted the mainstream press for framing all conservatives as “evil” or “dumb” and the permanent political class for not listening to the American people when young people, Hispanics, single moms, and African-Americans are “having doors slammed in their faces because small businesses are closing–and they are not able to create jobs.”

Cruz said the Constitutional liberties that  Americans “fought and bled for to protect the God-given rights of every American” are being “undermined by an administration that is abusing the Constitution.”

Speaking to Breitbart News Executive Chairman Stephen K. Bannon–who, along with a rotation of Breitbart News editors and contributors, will host the weekly Saturday show from 10 AM to 1 PM EST–Cruz emphasized that “Washington is not listening to American people.” He said he hears the same whenever he travels outside of the D.C. bubble and noted that there is something in the water that makes D.C. politicians “stop listening to the American people.”

When Bannon mentioned that a lot of the hate and vitriol that was directed at the late Andrew Breitbart have been transferred Cruz, he said that must be a sign that Cruz is doing something right. He also said that those who cannot argue with him substantively on issues are the first to hurl insults.

“If they are not throwing rocks at you, you’re not doing much of anything,” Cruz said. He said that Tea Partiers get attacked because they are “standing up for something” that the mainstream press and the political establishment does not like, which scares them.

Cruz said that the ultimate battle is not between Democrats and Republicans but between “entrenched politicians in both parties and the American people.” He said those outside of D.C. who hate politicians on both sides of the aisle get it, and that is why the “reactions in Washington, D.C. are polar opposite to reactions outside of D.C.”

He emphasized that he was not sent to D.C. to “roll over and go along to get along” as the permanent political class increases spending, the debt, and strips away “our constitutional rights,” undermining the foundation of the nation.

Because of his convictions, Cruz leads among Tea Partiers in nearly every 2016 presidential primary poll. Cruz spoke on Thursday at an event honoring the five-year anniversary of the Tea Party, and his address that called for the repeal of “every single word of Obamacare” received arguably the best reception.
