Col. Rob Maness, a conservative candidate for U.S. Senate in Louisiana, said incumbent Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-LA) should be defeated for supporting Obamacare and President Barack Obama’s recent nominee to the Justice Department who voluntarily defended infamous cop-killer Mumia Abu-Jamal.
But he also said that what makes him different from others challenging Landrieu is that he is an outsider who will fight for liberty while having a staunch record of defending it as a veteran of over 32 years in the Air Force. During the 9/11 attacks on the Pentagon, Maness, who was working at the Pentagon, went back into the building on a rescue team.
Appearing on Breitbart News Saturday on Sirius XM Patriot channel 125 with co-hosts Breitbart News Executive Chairman Stephen K. Bannon, Breitbart News CEO and President Larry Solov, and Editor-in-Chief Alex Marlow live from CPAC, Maness, who has been endorsed by groups like the Senate Conservatives Fund and the Madison Project, said he was ultimately running because America’s elected officials are not keeping their oath to defend the Constitution.
“I don’t think that everybody up here is keeping their oath in office,” he said.
He said Landrieu has voted with Obama about 98% of the time and noted that Obama was the most “lawless president in the history of the country.”
“The man changes law at will with almost no regard for the legislative process,” Maness said. “It’s the worst.”
He called Obamacare the “unaffordable healthcare law” and blasted Landrieu for “proudly” saying that she was the 60th vote and that she would “proudly vote for it again.”
Maness said that he believed in “natural marriage” and was “pro-life” and mentioned that his campaign has worked to reach out to grassroots donors and amplify his message via social media. He was optimistic that he had the foundation in place to spread his conservative message and gain momentum in the polls.
Because Louisiana has a so-called “Jungle Primary,” the top-two candidates after the November 4 election will go to a runoff if nobody gets more than 50% of the vote. Current polling has Landrieu stuck around 40%, moderate Republican Bill Cassidy around 20% and Maness around 10% in some polls.
As Sarah Palin noted, Landrieu may be particularly vulnerable because she was one of the Democrats in the Senate who are up for re-election this year and voted for “Obama’s cop-killer advocate nominee,” and Maness wondered how all of the police groups who have supported Landrieu will feel about her vote for Adegbile even those the Senate rejected him.
Landrieu is vulnerable, and that is why the second-place finisher in the November 4 election may be the next U.S. senator from Louisiana in a race that could determine which party controls the Senate.
