Sen. Mary Landrieu a No-Show at Obamacare Event as Nancy Pelosi Claims Obamacare a Winning Issue

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi boasted at last Thursday’s weekly House Democrat News Conference that Obamacare was indeed a winning issue for Democrats, but Louisiana Senator Mary Landrieu’s actions that same day indicated otherwise.

While leader Pelosi was trying to convince reporters that Obamacare was actually affordable, Senator Landrieu refuse to appear with Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, who was in New Orleans to promote Obamacare as the March 31st deadline fast approaches.

Both the Times-Picayune and Bayou Buzz pointed out that Senator Landrieu was not mentioned on the official schedule sent out by HHS, while Senator Landrieu’s brother, New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu, did appear with Secretary Sebelius, along with other state officials. Senator Landrieu skipped the event even as the U.S. Senate was not in session and there were no committee meetings requiring her attendance according to the officials chamber calendar.

This isn’t the first time that Senator Landrieu has refused to appear with a member of the administration; just last November Senator Landrieu traveled on Air Force One with President Obama as he visited New Orleans but refused to appear with him publicly.

Senator Landrieu finds herself in a epic reelection fight as Obamacare has proven to be widely unpopular in the state, and on two occasions Senator Landrieu has publicly stated that she would indeed vote for Obamacare again if she had to. However, her campaign has changed its narrative and now claims she wants to “fix” Obamacare.

Senator Landrieu is locked in a tough election fight with Rep. Bill Cassidy, with Rep. Cassidy holding a slight edge in most recent polls. It appears that the race will be heading to an almost certain runoff election in December. Many political watchers have moved this race from Democrat-leaning to a toss-up, including The Cook Report.

Democratic Leaders in Washington have sought to downplay Obamacare’s poisonous effect on the party, as the Senate Majority Leader recently took to the floor of the Senate to denounce the reported stories of Americans losing their health care coverage as “untrue.” Democratic National Committee Chair Debbie Wasserman-Schultz appeared on MSNBC’s Ed Schultz Show (covered by Breitbart) and flatly denied that Obamacare was the reason that Democrats lost Florida’s 13th District Special Election as Republican David Jolly defeated Democrat Alex Sink. This election defeat comes four months after Chairwoman Schultz boasted during a CNN appearance that all Democrat Candidates would run on Obamacare. Seems Senator Landrieu’s actions in recent months would say otherwise.
