2016: Rick Santorum 'Very Open' to Another Run

2016: Rick Santorum 'Very Open' to Another Run

On Wednesday, former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum said he was “very open” to another presidential run.

When asked whether the door was still open to a 2016 run on “Iowa Press,” which is a show on Iowa Public Television, Santorum said, “No question about it.”

“I’m very open to taking on another run and right now I’m just doing everything that I would be doing if I was gonna to run,” he said.

Santorum won the Iowa caucuses in 2012 but may occupy the same space as former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, who won the caucuses in 2008, if they both choose to run. In 2012, Santorum received the backing of social conservatives and spoke about how the GOP needed to appeal to blue-collar workers. He also has the support of billionaire Foster Friess.

He also spent Wednesday at a fundraiser for Iowa Secretary of State Matt Schultz, who endorsed Santorum before the 2012 caucuses and is now running for Congress, and blasted President Obama for his “incompetence” on Obamacare.
