Tea Party Groups Plan Protest at Tropical Confab Held by GOP Establishment

Tea party groups are organizing this weekend to protest the “betrayal” by GOP House leadership and twenty-five other members at a tropical summit organized by a group working to undermine the Tea Party.

The summit, sponsored by a sub group PAC of the Republican Main Street Partnership, is taking place at the Ritz Carlton in Amelia Island, Florida.

Tea party protesters are expected to begin rallying Thursday evening and throughout the weekend as House Majority Leader Eric Cantor and Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy are said to be arriving in Florida for the fundraiser.

Known as the Main Street Advocacy, the PAC is headed up by former Ohio Republican Representative Steve LaTourette. Red State’s Erick Erickson reported last year that LaTourette’s group received money from labor unions and “George Soros backed organizations.”

The Tea Party groups are putting up posters in the vicinity of the event highlighting the financial support of organizations backed by Soros.

Based in Washington, D.C. the Mainstreet Partnership’s main goal is to hold on to seats of liberal GOP’ers “who are under attack from the far right, and ensure that we hold on to seats represented by pragmatic Republicans that we would otherwise loose if there was an ultra-conservative in the general runoff.”

Conservative activist leaders are naturally outraged by Republican leadership’s involvement with the organization. In a press release Brent Bozell , President of the 501c4 organization For America said, “These men, who claim to be ‘leaders’ of the Republican Party, know what they’re doing. They’ve joined forces with left-wing billionaires like George Soros against their own base. What they don’t seem to understand, however, is that they’re committing political suicide. It’s just a shame they are dragging down the entire Republican Party with them. Frankly, this is what the GOP deserves with leaders like these.”
