Poll: 64 Percent of GOP Arizona Voters Want McCain Gone in 2016

A new Citizens United Political Victory Fund poll shows that Republican Arizona voters have had it with Sen. John McCain, even though the senator has signaled his intentions to run for a sixth term in 2016.

According to the poll, 64.2 percent of likely GOP primary voters said that they are ready for someone new to take the job and only 29.3 percent signaled a willingness to re-elect McCain.

The poll also shows that McCain loses to other potential Arizona Repubican candidates in a primary.

McCain loses to Gov. Jan Brewer 47.7 percent to 29 percent and to Rep. Matt Salmon 48.2 percent to 30.3 percent. Rep. David Schweikert earns 40.1 percent support from those polled with McCain at 33.9 percent.

The poll was conducted by The Polling Company Inc. for the Citizens United Political Victory Fund. It surveyed 600 likely 2016 Republican primary voters in Arizona and has a 4.1 percent margin of error.

“This poll coupled with a poll released last month shows John McCain is in very big trouble as he is thinking about a sixth term in the United States Senate. Arizonans are ready for change; especially Republicans who according to these results want a real conservative to represent them in Washington,” David N. Bossie, President of Citizens United, told Breitbart News.

McCain, who lost a presidential bid to Barack Obama in 2008, has long-championed amnesty in the Senate. The issue emerged in a primary challenge in 2010, during which McCain adopted the slogan “build the dang fence!” After securing re-election, however, McCain went on to help shepherd through the controversial “Gang of Eight” immigration bill through the Senate.

The poll found GOP voters oppose the Gang of Eight bill by a 64-30 margin.
