Female Student Crowned Prom King at Las Vegas High School

LAS VEGAS, May 7 (UPI) —
A Nevada high school girl decided to run for prom king this year and she was able to walk away with the crown despite ruffling some feathers.

According to Skyler Galliher, her gender-nonspecific first name helped her get on the ballot at Centennial High School.

Galliher decided to run for king after her friend, Summer Brother, told her that she was running to be prom queen. “She’s like, ‘Well, you should run with me.’ And I said, ‘What?’ And she said, ‘As prom king.’ It started as a joke,” Galliher told KVVU-TV.

Once people realized her gender, some of them tried to stop her campaign.

Even though they both won their respective elections, Galliher and Brother did not go to the prom together and they each had their own dates.

Galliher, who said she was “thrilled” and “excited” to be prom king, could have even bigger things in her future.
