Poll: 39% of College Students Satisfied with Leadership in Obama Era

College students have become increasingly dissatisfied with the country’s political leadership since President Barack Obama took office in 2009.

Only 39 percent of college students surveyed in a recent Panetta Institute survey said they were “satisfied with the country’s political leadership,” while 60 percent were dissatisfied.

At the start of Obama’s presidency, 73 percent of college students were satisfied with the country’s political leadership and 25 percent were dissatisfied.” The survey found that “the feeling of hope and change has subsided significantly” among Democrats (57 percent satisfied, down from 88 percent in 2009), Republicans (17 percent, down from 48 percent), and independents (33 percent, down from 70 percent).

Hart Research Associates conducted the survey of 817 college students from April 11 to 19. The margin of error is +/- 3.5 percentage points for the overall sample.
