Senator Richard Blumenthal: Santa Barbara Attacks Should Revive Gun Control

During a May 25th appearance on Face the Nation, Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) said the attacks Elliot Rodger carried out with a gun ought to revive gun control in Congress.

On May 23 Rodger shot and killed three people in Santa Barbara, California, and stabbed and killed three others.

Blumenthal told host Major Garrett that the loss of life in Santa Barbara reminds him of how Congress “was on the verge of passing legislation that would stop the madness and end the insanity” after the heinous crime at Sandy Hook Elementary.

He said he hopes “this unspeakable tragedy will bring back measures that would keep guns out of the hands of dangerous people, who are severely troubled or deranged like this young man was.”

Blumenthal said he hopes the pursuit of mental health solutions will “provide a consensus” that will allow Congress to come together to pass more gun control.
