On the day prominent pro-amnesty Republicans like House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) and Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) may clear their respective primaries, Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg’s FWD.us group launched two national commercials pushing for amnesty legislation.
According to The Hill, FWD.us made a $250,000 buy on national cable television, and the ads will start to run on Tuesday.
One ad, from the deceptively named “Americans for a Conservative Direction,” says there won’t be “amnesty” for illegal immigrants and calls on the House to act on immigration. Another profiles a DREAMer. Zuckerberg’s group has used that playbook before when it ran deceptive ads for Rep. Renee Ellmers (R-NC) claiming that she does not support amnesty, which was contrary to even her public stances. FWD.us then gloated after Ellmers cleared her primary against her extremely underfunded opponent after the district was bombarded with ads from Zuckerberg’s group that said Ellmers’ position on immigration was “no amnesty. Period.”
FWD.us’s ultimate goal is to get more high-tech guest-worker visas. The Senate’s amnesty bill, for instance, doubles and possibly triples the number of guest-worker visas, even though scholars have debunked the notion that there is a shortage of American high-tech workers.
