Cantor's Graceless 'Concession Speech'

Cantor's Graceless 'Concession Speech'

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) failed to congratulate or even acknowledge Dave Brat in his concession speech last night.

Neither did Cantor offer Brat his support in November’s general election against his Democratic opponent, or call Brat to concede the race, according to Brat.

“Cantor’s concession speech did not mention Dave once,” Brat’s campaign manager Zach Werrell noted to Breitbart News.

Cantor’s breach of political protocol was barely mentioned in mainstream media reports. Only Mediate noted it, and they buried it deep in their article on Cantor’s loss.

Cantor offered only five words of concession: “Obviously we came up short.”

The balance of his speech was dedicated to thanking his family, friends, and staff, and touching on two of his favorite policy areas, charter schools and research.

“I’m really proud of the Gabriella Miller Kids First Research Act,” Cantor said. “Because what it says as conservatives is that we don’t believe you should spend taxpayer dollars on political conventions, that in fact it’s probably better to help cure disease, because not only do you save lives and help people, you can ultimately solve the federal deficit problem by bringing down federal health care costs.”

Surprisingly, Cantor made no mention of the issue that ultimately led to his defeat: his support for granting amnesty to illegal aliens who entered the country as minors.

“Brat said he had not spoken to Cantor since the majority leader conceded in a ballroom at a Westin Hotel in Richmond.”
