Plano, Texas, officials have completely reversed course on the decision Breitbart News reported about on June 10th, where Agape Resource and Assistance Center–a Christian ministry for women and children in crisis–was ordered to stop meeting in its ministry houses once per month to share a meal and have a group Bible study and prayer.
This reversal comes in response to a demand letter from Liberty Institute and Dallas-area lawyer Kirte Kinser. The letter set forth why Plano’s order violated Texas law, the Texas Constitution, federal law, and the U.S. Constitution.
Late Wednesday, Plano responded, fully meeting all of Liberty Institute’s demands. “It has come to the [city’s] attention that the aforementioned Notice was issued in error and should therefore be disregarded,” writes Plano’s Cynthia O’Banner, the city’s property standards director.
“As previously conveyed, the City of Plano appreciates Agape Resource & Assistance Center for services rendered to citizens in need,” O’Banner adds. “Please accept our apology for the misunderstanding.”
Speaking exclusively to Breitbart News, Liberty Institute’s Hiram Sasser commended Plano’s prompt admission of error and reversal. “We are pleased the city acted quickly to rescind the ban on Agape and offer its support for this much needed ministry for women and children in crisis,” Sasser tells Breitbart News.
