U of Chicago's Casey Mulligan Wins Major Economics Prize

University of Chicago economist Casey Mulligan has won the prestigious 2014 F.A. Hayek Prize for his 2012 book, The Redistribution Recession: How Labor Market Distortions Contracted the Economy.

“Mulligan’s work shows how government policies designed to improve Americans’ economic fortunes have, perversely, weakened the economy,” the Manhattan institute said in the announcement on its website.

The economist will be awarded a $50,000 prize at the Institute’s annual dinner on June 25.

In February The Wall Street Journal called Mulligan “the economist who exposed Obamacare” for his work investigating the President’s signature healthcare law.

The Journal also noted that Mulligan is now seen a “serious economist” after he helped drum up the “furor” that Obamacare will “harm growth and jobs.”

Mulligan has not rested on his laurels, either. Along with the book he has continued to ring alarm bells about Obamacare. Only days ago he reported on the “massive tax increase hidden inside Obamacare.”
