A U.S. Army Captain who served in Bosnia, Kosovo, and Afghanistan was fired after being told he was simply being relocated–and after he and his pregnant wife had put money down on a home at the new location.
The Captain assumed his job was safe amid military downsizing because he had just been ordered “to a new duty station.” He was wrong.
According to Fox News, a few days after he “signed a lease and put a deposit on the home at the family’s next location” he was “called into his post’s commanding general’s office and informed that…he would no longer be in the military.”
The Captain said: “I was led to believe everything was good to go, and the next thing you know, Monday morning, you’re having to talk to the man. …You think it’s never going to happen to you.”
Last week the Army began informing 1,100 Captains that their services are not longer needed. Five-hundred Majors will be told the same thing.
Captains and Majors are part of the “2,500 officers and NCOs who will be involuntarily separated this year as part of an ongoing drawdown of forces.”
