House GOP Balks At Obama's $3.7 Billion Border Ask

Appropriations Committee Chairman Hal Rogers (R-KY) told reporters on Friday that President Obama’s “emergency” supplemental spending request for the border was too expensive for the House of Representatives to support.

The bill requests $3.7 billion in new funding – of which $1.8 billion would be sent to the Department of Health and Human Services for long-term housing.

Rogers also indicated that the House of Representatives was currently working with pieces of Obama’s legislation, but did not indicate any specifics.

Republicans are balking from the idea, as many have signaled that the United States should immediately return the unaccompanied minors to their home countries, rather than house them to deter others from immigrating illegally.
