With ill winds blowing across the sails of the Democratic Party’s election chances in 2014 and the White House concerned about low voter turnout, Politico reports that Michelle Obama has recorded a new video to drum up support for her party, warning the party’s voters that they need to take the 2014 election as seriously as they did 2008 and 2012. Obama intoned:
When it comes to the midterm elections this November, we need you to be as passionate and as hungry as you were in 2008 and 2012 – in fact, you need to be even more passionate and more hungry to get Democrats elected to Congress because these elections will be even hard and even closer than those presidential elections.
The video is timed to start concurrently with the DCCC’s new 1millionvotesfor2014.com website to mark the day 100 days before the 2014 election. It came along with an email that repeated ad infinitum “commit to vote.”
Which issues does Michelle Obama list as priorities in the video? You guessed it: equal pay and reproductive rights (women’s vote), immigration (Latino vote), and a minimum-wage increase (Occupy supporters and hard core leftists).
Ignoring her husband’s rule by executive fiat and vilifying Congressional opposition to his abuse of executive power, she continued, “It’s simple: You deserve a Congress that will work for you and your family.”
Last week, Michelle Obama started her campaign for the 2014 election, saying, “Make no mistake about it: Barack’s last campaign was not in 2012, Barack’s last campaign is this year, 2014. Because the election in 2012 wasn’t the change that we sought, it was only the chance to make that change.”
