President Obama defended Secretary of State John Kerry’s widely criticized failures to work out a cease-fire between Israel and Hamas.
Obama explained that the United States was going to be among the few countries that were actually going to try to negotiate. Even though the efforts appeared to fail, Obama argued, things tended to get better.
