Poll: Americans Strongly in Favor of Military Air Strikes in Iraq and Syria

A new ABC News/Washington Post poll reveals that Americans are strongly supportive of military air strikes against the Islamic State (IS) terrorists in Iraq.

Seventy-one percent of respondents support President Obama’s decision to launch air strikes against the Sunni insurgents in Iraq. In the same poll in August, only 54 percent of Americans supported air strikes in Iraq.

Sixty-five percent believe that the United States should expand air strikes into Syria against terrorist insurgents.

Fifty-eight percent support the idea of providing arms and ammunition to Kurdish military forces to battle insurgents in Iraq.

Only 38 percent now approve of Obama’s handling of international affairs, down 8points since July–the lowest in his career. Fifty-six percent disapprove.

The poll also shows that fifty-two percent believe Obama has been too cautious in dealing with Islamic insurgents in Iraq and Syria.
