Top Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett continued the public push back against a recent report citing Democrats’ criticisms of DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz Friday.
Jarrett told American Urban Radio Network’s April Ryan that Obama supports Wasserman Schultz and that she spoke with the DNC chair Thursday.
“I spoke with her yesterday, have a great deal of respect and admiration for her,” Jarrett said.
Wednesday, Politico reported on a scathing swell of criticism from Democrats, including from the White House and Congress, about Wasserman Schultz’s leadership abilities. Jarrett was named as an official who has reprimanded Wasserman Schultz for overstepping her bounds — including reportedly chastising her behavior in one instance as “completely unprofessional and rude.”
The White House adviser sounded a different tune Friday, however, reiterating her and Obama’s support for the current DNC chair.
“She works so hard, she travels all across our country and the President will look forward to seeing her today and obviously he’s a leader in the Democratic Party, he appointed her not once but twice and she has his full support,” Jarrett told American Urban Radio Network.
Thursday, White House spokesman Josh Earnest offered a defense of Wasserman Schultz.
“Based on the strong track record of leadership that she has already demonstrated at the DNC, the president has strong confidence in her ability to lead that organization,” Earnest said.
Jarrett is attending the DNC Women’s Leadership Forum, as is Obama, on Friday.
