Bob Dole: 'Disappointed' Greg Orman Called Me a 'Clown'

In the closing days of a squeaker U.S. Senate race in Kansas, Independent Greg Orman is under fire for referring to Bob Dole, a 91 year-old living legend in that state, as a “clown.”

According to the Washington Examiner, when asked about the long line of Republican bigwigs who have campaigned for incumbent Senator Pat Roberts, including Dole, Orman replied: “It sort of seems like a Washington establishment clown car to me.”

The Roberts campaign quickly pounced:

In the final days of this campaign, Democrat Greg Orman is finally showing Kansans his true colors and revealing his arrogant disdain for Republicans. His liberal personal views aside, for Greg Orman to attack Senator Dole as a ‘Washington establishment clown’ is an outrage. Few leaders have done more for Kansas and this country than Senator Bob Dole, and Greg Orman should immediately apologize for his slimy attack on Senator Dole and other Republican leaders.

Dole also released a short statement:

“I don’t think I’ve ever been called a ‘clown’ before. I’m disappointed by Mr. Orman’s statement.”

According to the Real Clear Politics poll of polls, Orman is up by just a single point with 4 days to go.
