Two Los Angeles Police Department officers are safe and one gunman is in custody after a “premeditated” attack overnight. One gunman is still at large.

The officers were responding to “an unrelated call,” according to the Los Angeles Times, when they came under rifle fire. The LAPD attack comes in the wake of the recent assassination of two New York Police Department officers.

The LAPD had sent out an alert via Facebook to residents around 11:00 p.m. Sunday night: “Please stay indoors in the area of 52nd Street and Hoover Avenue, armed Suspect in the area. Please keep our Officers in your thoughts and prayers!”

The attack occurred at roughly 9:30 p.m., and the search for the second gunman was called off just before 6:00 a.m., the Times reports.
