Arrests and the issuance of tickets and criminal summonses have all nosedived in the wake of the murder of two police officers in Brooklyn, reports the New York Times.
Weekly arrests have dropped 56 percent from figures last year at this time.
Parking and traffic tickets have plunged over 90 percent.
“Citywide, there were 347 criminal summonses written, compared with 4,077 in the same week a year ago,” reports the Times.
This week’s trend follows that of last week when the NYPD significantly reduced arrests over figures from a year ago.
The startling statistics come on the heels of tensions between New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio and the New York Police Department. During services for NYPD Detectives Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos, NYPD and other law enforcement officers all turned their backs as de Blasio delivered his remarks.
