White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest declined to comment on the news that NBC had suspended Brian Williams for six months for lying about a reporting trip to Iraq.

“I know that this is something that NBC News has been talking about quite a bit in the last several weeks, and I don’t think that’s something I’m going to weigh in on from here,” Earnest said, when asked about the issue by reporters.

Williams has interviewed Obama multiple times, including an exclusive interview during the commemoration of the 70th anniversary of D-Day in Normandy.

He also interviewed Obama as he struggled to react properly to the BP oil spill.

When Obama first became president, Williams and an NBC camera crew spent time filming a feature based on a day in the life of his presidency. During the trip, Obama even bought Williams a cheeseburger as the pair traveled on the presidential limousine to Five Guys.
