On February 19, a widow in Columbus, Ohio, shot and killed an alleged burglar one week after her son gave her a gun “to keep her safe.”

According to 10TV, the woman heard someone breaking in around 5 am, grabbed her gun, and “fired multiple shots at [the suspect].” He was rushed to a hospital but pronounced dead two hours later.

Police identified the suspect as “28-year-old Christopher Lee Willis.” They suspect that Willis “also broke into neighboring homes.”

Residents near the widow’s home heard her fire the gun. One person, startled by the sound, got up and checked on her kids to be sure they were all right.

The widow’s son said he never thought his mother would actually have to use the gun.
