On March 16, the Florida Senate Higher Education Subcommittee passed SB 176, campus carry legislation, by a vote of 6-3.

SB 176 is supported by the NRA but opposed by Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in American, Everytown for Gun Safety, and other gun control groups.

According to The News-Press, the NRA and pro-Second Amendment senators support the measure because it will allow women to carry guns with which to fight off sexual predators.

For example, Senator Lizbeth Benacquisto (R-Fort Myers) said she worries about “the safety of sexual assault victims.” She is especially concerned about those who are attacked when “away from university police.” Benacquisto said those women “should be able to protect themselves.”

Breitbart News previously reported that Moms Demand Action and Everytown are opposed to arming women for self-defense on Florida’s college campuses. They have been conducting an ad campaign against campus carry, as well as against another bill that would allow public school teachers to carry guns with which to protect children.
