With female participation in concealed carry classes growing in Michigan, and Governor Rick Snyder (R) signing a bill that allows a woman to get a concealed carry permit in an expedited manner when in a domestic violence situation, Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America is warning that gun control is the answer, not concealed carry.

According to Michigan Radio, Moms Demand Action’s Kristen Moore said women need to know that getting a gun makes things more dangerous for them. She said women who are considering concealed carry “should know about the potential for self-defense, but also the risks that gun ownership introduces.”

These risks include “homicide, suicide, or an accidental shooting,” added Moore.

Regarding the expedited concealed carry permits now available to women who are in a domestic violence situation, Moore does not approve. Even though that law was passed so women who face threats could quickly get and carry a gun for self-defense, Moore said the expedited permits show that Michigan is moving in the “wrong direction.”

Moore attests that more gun laws mean less crime, so Moms Demand Action wants more such laws in Michigan.
