The White House says it’s time for Hillary Clinton to be recognized for requesting the State Department release the emails that she personally handed back to the department from her private home server.

During an inaugural Meerkat interview with MSNBC’s Kasie Hunt, the White House Press Secretary explained that Clinton “deserves some credit” for the way she handled her emails.

“The standard that Secretary Clinton was held to in terms of retaining her emails and making them public is certainly higher than you would expect of a private sector CEO,” Josh Earnest said. “But again that also is why Secretary Clinton deserves some credit for asking the State Department to release all of her emails.”

Acknowledging the early adoption for technical applications like Meerkat, Earnest pointed out that there are always risks associated with new technology, yet it is often worth it.

“I think that the political process itself will benefit from a situation in which you have candidates seeking to use new technology to try to better engage their supporters and their prospective voters,” he said.
