A report from the Justice Department alleges that agents of the Drug Enforcement Agency had “sex parties” with prostitutes in the employ of drug cartels.
According to the Washington Post, sources state that these orgies happened in Colombia—the same place that Secret Service agents were caught in a sex scandal in April 2012. In fact, the report was an outgrowth of an investigation into Secret Service wrongdoing in that case. Between 2009 and 2012, according to the report, DEA agents allegedly solicited prostitutes at least 26 times.
Some of the members of the DEA denied knowledge that prostitutes were in attendance, but the report from Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz cast doubt on such naysaying. Horowitz added that the FBI and DEA stonewalled his attempts to gather information and that the DEA, FBI, and US Marshals routinely ignore reports of sexual misconduct.
Ten DEA agents have been accused in the report, and seven of them admitted to involvement. Their total suspensions ranged from two days to ten days. Drug cartels also allegedly bribed at least three DEA supervisory special agents with cash and weapons.
Despite the government’s widespread surveillance of civilian populations in the United States, Horowitz added that he had no ability to investigate sexual texts from DEA agents thanks to lack of technology.
