On Tuesday, Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America condemned Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant (R) for signing SB 2394, a bill legalizing the permitless carry of guns in bags, brief cases, and luggage without a permit.

Moms Demand Action lamented that the law will allow “people to carry hidden, loaded handguns in public without a permit.” It has not dawned on Moms that criminals already carry hidden, loaded guns in public without a permit, so SB 2394 only levels the playing field.

Instead, Moms Demand Action’s Victoria Coy said:

Governor Phil Bryant and the Mississippi legislature failed to recognize the dangers of passing S.B. 2394, and in doing so, have ultimately compromised the public safety of Mississippi families.

We are terribly disappointed that Representative Gipson quietly amended and pushed through this dangerous bill allowing Mississippians to carry hidden, loaded handguns in public without a permit. He was probably hoping that we wouldn’t notice – but unfortunately for him, we did and we will remember when it comes time to head to the voting booth.

Moms Demand Action did not indicate whether they will be opposing pro-gun representatives in Mississippi with the same massive group of 150 people they had in Nashville over the weekend. Perhaps they have an even smaller group which can quickly be deployed to anywhere in the country, at any given time.
