Ohio Democratic Congressman Tim Ryan (D-OH) supports meditation time on Capitol Hill for members of Congress and their staffers.

“There’s a little bit of a stigma. There’s also I think an ignorance as far as not understanding the benefits of it, the science behind it, the fact that the Seattle Seahawks Super Bowl Champs are doing it and it’s a part of their program or that the Marines are doing it,” Ryan said of his meditation practice.

Ryan says he spends roughly 20 to 30 minutes in his office every day meditating.

NBC 4 in Washington reported about Ryan’s meditation on Wednesday, saying both Republican and Democratic staffers meet for 30 minutes once a week together to meditate in order to create a calmer working environment through the meditation.

Ryan told NBC that meditation could reduce friction and increase productivity in Congress.
