The mother of Hattiesburg cop killer suspect Marvin Banks says her son is a regular drug user and she has “no doubt” he killed Officers Benjamin Deen and Liquori Tate on Saturday night.

Breitbart News previously reported that Banks is a felon who has been charged with two counts of capital murder related to the officers’ deaths.

According to the AP, Mary Smith said her son Marvin “looked high” in the photographs she saw of him after the incident. She said she had been urging him to get treatment for his drug use, but he refused.

Moreover, Smith said her son had been hearing voices in his head. She sad the voices were the result of injuries he sustained to his head after being attacked with a pipe “several years ago.” Smith said she has also urged her son to get treatment for the voices, but he refused that as well.

Smith’s other son, Curtis Banks, was “charged with two counts of accessory after the fact of capital murder.”

Smith said there had been a growing level of tension in Hattiesburg because of the way police allegedly “harass young black men.” She added, “You could tell something was going to happen, but I never thought it would be my sons.”
