President Obama “strongly opposes” the House bill that would ban abortions earlier than 20 weeks, even though Republicans made changes to the bill after it was pulled by leadership in January.

During the White House press briefing today, press secretary Josh Earnest described bill as “disgraceful,” asserting that the changes to the legislation were only “cursory.”

He claimed that if passed, the Republican bill would directly add a “harsh burden” on victims of rape, incest, and sexual assault.

“This piece of legislation would actually, ironically enough, actually insert the government right between a woman and her doctor,” he said, pointing out that Republicans usually want government out of the doctors office.

Obama issued a veto threat of the bill back in January, before it was updated to reflect concerns from some House Republicans.
