Grassroots Group to NC GOP: Don’t Let Bloomberg Bully Us Out of Gun Rights

Grass Roots North Carolina (GRNC) is running an ad to counter Michael Bloomberg’s attempts to bully NC House Republicans into voting against legislation that removes the onerous permit-to-purchase requirement for North Carolina residents.

The bill removing the permit-to-purchase is sponsored by representative Jacqueline Schaffer (R-Charlotte), titled the  “Second Amendment Affirmation Act.”

Schaffer believes requiring handgun purchasers to get a permit before being allowed to purchase is the same as requiring a permit to be able to exercise the Second Amendment, thus she opposes it.

Breitbart News previously reported that on May 5, Bloomberg-funded Moms Demand Action For Gun Sense In America rounded up nearly 36 moms to protest Schaffer’s bill. On May 11, Breitbart News reported that Bloomberg-funded Everytown for Gun Safety was running television ads in North Carolina claiming Schaffer’s bill abolishes background checks for handguns.

Everytown equated a permit-to-purchase with a background check. The truth is, Schaffer’s bill in no way affects the requirement that background checks be performed on handgun purchases at retail outlets.

GRNC has stepped up to get out the truth about Schaffer’s bill.

The Associated Press reported that GRNC president President Paul Valone “[rejects] arguments from bill critics that the measure would abolish background checks if the pistol permit application system run by sheriffs is eliminated. The permit system includes a background check requirement. Federal checks during dealer sales would continue.”

GRNC’s ad will run in the Charlotte and Raleigh markets.
