On May 18 at around 1:00 PM, a 77-year-old man shot and killed one suspect and wounded another after the men allegedly invaded his Redland, Florida, home.

According to NBC Miami, “One burglar was shot in the chest and pronounced dead at the scene. The other burglar was also shot in the chest and was taken to Kendall Regional Hospital where he was in critical condition.” The second suspect has since been upgraded to stable condition.

Neighbors say there had been a string of recent burglaries in the area that had gotten everyone’s attention.

One neighbor, Olga Dahl, said, “You know what, I think it’s good because I’m tired of this. We are not here to you know to kill people, but if you go to my house, I have two kids and if you go to my house, be careful.”

Other neighbors expressed their hope that this incident would mark an end to the string of burglaries.

The 77-year-old man was not injured.
