On May 26, the White House suggested the epic gun control failure in Baltimore proved the need for more gun control.

Breitbart News previously reported there were 26 shootings over Memorial Day weekend in Baltimore, 9 of which were fatal. This happened even though new draconian gun laws were put in place in Maryland in May 2013.

The LA Times reported that then-Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley signed a law banning “45 types of assault weapons, [decreasing] the number of bullets allowed in magazines and [requiring] handgun buyers to undergo safety training and submit fingerprints to obtain a license.”

The result? May 2015 has been the deadliest month in Baltimore since December 1999.

On May 26, White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest responded to a question about violence in Baltimore and other cities by pointing to “entrenched problems.” He then added: “And obviously there’s some common-sense things that we can do. Certainly passage of some gun safety laws in Congress that could keep guns out of the hands of criminals would be one thing that we could do to try to limit the violence.”

In other words, more gun control is needed to address the failures of gun control.

It is worth noting that in Chicago—another bastion of epic gun control failure—upwards of 55 people were shot over Memorial Day weekend, 12 fatally. Breitbart News reported that Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel responded to the violence by pushing more gun control.
