On July 10, an Eldorado, Ohio, father shot and killed an alleged intruder after his three-year-old son came to him and said, “A robber’s here, daddy.”

WHIO reports that the incident occurred just after 6:30 p.m. The 22-year-old suspect, Jacob Craft, was allegedly armed and shouted an obscenity at the father of the three-year-old when he confronted him. Fearing Craft was determined to use the gun he was accused of carrying, the father opened fire, hitting the suspect once.

Preble County Sheriff Mike Simpson said they arrived on scene and “found a 22-year-old male on the floor just inside the front door with a single gunshot wound to the torso area.” He said the family did not know the man.

Simpson pointed out that a home invasion is uncommon in that area: “They don’t have someone running around town just barging into homes with loaded weapons. This was an isolated incident.”

The suspect was rushed to a hospital, where he died.
