On Monday, New York police officers admitted they released a man suspected of a home invasion too quickly, after a 7-year-old girl who lived in the home told officers the man had raped her.

Officers arrested Daniel Nieto, 32, after a Staten Island family reported that their home had been broken into at 3 AM on August 6. That morning, police found him in the vicinity, arrested him, and charged him with the home invasion.

Unfortunately, police released Nieto in short order before being told that a 7-year-old girl who lived in the home had allegedly been raped.

The NYPD is now asking for the public’s help to find Nieto so that they can charge him with child rape.

Nieto stands 5 feet 2 inches tall and weighs about 125 pounds. He has short black hair and was last seen wearing a white t-shirt, black vest jacket, brown pants, and brown shoes.

Anyone with info on Nieto should call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
