On October 22 police said a burglar in Portland, Oregon, stripped naked, climbed in bed with a sleeping couple, then pulled up his pants and ran down the street dodging bullets as the homeowner gave chase while shooting at the suspect with a handgun.

The incident occurred around 3:30 a.m.

According to KATU, police report that 32-year old Richard Dean Defeudis “broke into the house…at Northwest 27th and Quimby Street” while armed with a knife. After gathering items he planned to take from the home, he stripped naked and got into bed with the couple. The sleeping man “told police he woke up when Defeudis [allegedly] kissed him.”

While the man retrieved a gun, Defeudis put on his pants and took off running. The unidentified man chased Defeudis, “firing three shots from the handgun.” Police said Defeudis was able to dodge the bullets and reach a vacant house on Pettygrove Street, where he hid until officers arrived.

Carol–a neighbor of the sleeping couple–said she was awakened by screaming once the man was chasing Defeudis down the street. Carol said, “[They were] screaming at each other. There was something about a knife and then after that, that’s when the shots.”

Defeudis was taken to a local hospital for treatment–“possibly related to drug use”–then booked and charged for burglary, “first-degree sex abuse, and unlawful use of a weapon.”
