NEW YORK CITY, New York — GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump criticized fellow presidential contender Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) about missing votes in the U.S. Senate, Rubio’s personal finances and being endorsed by Paul Singer — a hedge fund billionaire donor who is for open borders and same-sex marriage.

“I think that really Marco is overrated and frankly had Bush been a better messenger, he has the better message. If that was me delivering that message, it would have been much different,” Trump said of Bush’s failed attack on Rubio’s no-show voting record at the CNBC debate last week. “Macro doesn’t show up to the United States Senate. He’s representing the people of Florida… a sitting senator and he doesn’t show up for the people of Florida. I don’t think he should be doing that.”

Trump said Bush’s facts were right when he attacked Rubio for not voting. Trump went on to point to the left-leaning social issues behind Rubio’s billionaire backer, saying Rubio’s stance on immigration is “trouble for him.”

Bush gave a very weak message, I agree with that. It was poorly delivered. But the facts are on Bush’s side. And ultimately, I think Marco’s going to be hurt very badly. If you look at Mr. Singer, you have have to see where Mr. Singer is coming from and when you see where he’s coming from, I think people are going to say, “Whoa, I didn’t know that.” Look at Marco’s stance on illegal immigration. It’s really trouble for him. I don’t see how he can win.

Trump took questions from the media following a press conference about his new book — “Crippled America” — at Trump Tower in New York City.

A reporter asked Trump about Rubio’s personal finances.

All you have to do is look at his credit card. He’s a disaster with his credit cards. I’ll tell you what I love, Florida. I am in Florida all the time and for years I’ve een hearing his credit cards are a disaster. I would think that when you take a look at it, you’re going to find that, but his credit card debt and his problems with credit cards and what he did when he was running the party apparatus with credit cards – I’ve heard about it for years.

“He has a very bad record of finances. If you look at what happened with his houses … he certainly lives aboves his means. There’s no question about that,” Trump added.
